Dr. Andrew Conrad Barile is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and the CEO and Founder of Xtreem Pulse LLC, the engineering company behind PureLift. He earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Daemen College and is a licensed physical therapist.

He brings over two decades of clinical and entrepreneurial experience across physical therapy, craniosacral therapy and medical device innovation, built on a working knowledge of human anatomy and muscle physiology.

For PureLift LAB he reviews how current is delivered across all ten levels, from sub-sensory nanocurrent and skin-level microcurrent to motor-level EMS, and how the Infuse pass fits into the same ten-minute routine.

He trained at the University of Hamburg, was a Max Planck Society Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research, and held senior consultant posts at the Charite Universitatsmedizin Berlin before his appointment as Chair in 2016.

One of Europe's leading authorities on arteriogenesis, with over 150 peer-reviewed publications and US and EU patents, he reviews for PureLift LAB how the evidence on electrical stimulation is read and where its limits lie.

What's This About:

To sculpt your jawline and cheekbones with PureLift Pro, glide it along the jaw and cheekbones on a comfortable EMS level four or five times a week, holding at the end of each pass, and expect a more defined look to build over eight to twelve weeks.

This guide gives you a sculpting routine, such as:

- the muscles behind a defined jaw

- a step by step jawline routine

- a cheekbone routine

- which levels to use

- what to expect and when

and many more!

We make PureLift Pro, so we have kept to what the device does and what the evidence supports.

Key Points:

A defined jawline comes from toned muscles along the jaw and under the chin.

EMS levels 3 to 10 give the stronger contraction that suits sculpting work.

Glide from the chin toward the ear along the jaw, and from the mouth toward the top of the ear for the cheeks.

A more defined look builds over eight to twelve weeks of regular use.

Excess fat or loose skin under the chin is not something a device removes.

What makes a jawline look defined

Toned muscles along the jaw and under the chin give a crisper edge between the face and neck. When they lose tone, the edge softens.

More on jawline definition is in our jawline device guide.

Jawline routine

Apply a generous layer of conductive serum along the jaw and under the chin.

Set a comfortable EMS level, starting around level 3.

Place the device at the center of the chin and glide along the jawbone toward the ear, holding for two seconds. Repeat five times per side.

Glide under the chin from the center back toward the angle of the jaw, five times per side.

Cheekbone routine

Glide from the corner of the mouth up toward the top of the ear, holding at the end.

Glide from the side of the nose out along the cheekbone toward the temple.

Repeat five times per side, staying within three minutes per side in total.

Which levels to use

Level 2 microcurrent to warm up, then EMS levels for sculpting. Raise the level only while it stays comfortable.

EMS is felt as a visible contraction. See our article on what EMS feels like.

What to expect

A short-lived lifted look after sessions, and a more defined jaw building over eight to twelve weeks of four or five sessions a week.

A randomized controlled trial by Kavanagh and colleagues, published in 2012, measured the effect of facial electrical stimulation after twelve weeks.

A double chin from fat or loose skin needs a different approach, covered in our double chin article.
