"Turkey neck" is a casual name for looseness, folds, bands, or fullness below the jaw. It can involve thin or sun-damaged skin, excess skin after weight change, submental fat, visible platysma bands, posture, and reduced muscular support. No at-home device can remove redundant skin, dissolve a fat pocket, or duplicate a neck lift. Identify the layer creating the neck concern

Pinching or stretching the area is not a diagnosis, but it can reveal why one promise does not fit everyone. Fine creasing and a papery look point toward skin quality. A soft pad beneath the chin may reflect fat distribution. Vertical bands can involve the platysma. A hanging fold after substantial weight loss may be true excess skin. More than one feature is common, and bone structure plus head position affect the silhouette.

A temporary flushed or tightened feeling after use is not proof that tissue has been eliminated. What EMS contributes beneath the skin

The platysma and other lower-face muscles participate in the moving support system of the neck and jawline. Facial muscle changes with age alongside skin, fat, ligaments, and bone. A review of facial muscle aging supports the relevance of this layer, but it does not prove that weak muscle is the sole cause of a turkey-neck appearance. Muscle conditioning is one targeted intervention inside a broader plan.

Use facial evidence without turning it into a promise

A randomized controlled facial NMES trial found increased thickness of a cheek muscle after twelve weeks, showing that facial muscle can respond to electrical training. It did not study neck skin, platysma bands, PureLift, or people with substantial excess skin. A small eight-week split-face NMES study reported changes in jawline angle, submental volume, sagging, wrinkles, and other measures. Its twenty-four-person sample and different high-frequency protocol prevent a direct PureLift prediction, and "submental volume" in that study is not evidence that EMS destroys fat. The Omatsu endpoints cited here were measured at week eight in a prospective split-face controlled study, not a randomized trial, using a multimodal intervention that combined 40 to 190 kHz fNMES with iontophoresis, LED, and cooling, so the study cannot isolate an fNMES-specific effect. A 2026 correction disclosed that two authors were YA-MAN employees and that YA-MAN supplied the devices and instruments; it stated that the results and conclusions were unchanged.

Conventional facial microcurrent devices operate at 1 to 8 Hz. At their cited microampere outputs, they remain below the motor threshold; a review of microcurrent physiology addresses this low-amplitude category (PMID 36399190). No direct head-to-head trial has compared PureLift with NuFACE, ZIIP, FOREO, or FaceGym for a turkey-neck appearance. The stronger recommendation comes from category coverage. Microcurrent-only devices operate below motor contraction at their published outputs. PureLift begins with low-amplitude settings and continues to real EMS. A safe, realistic home routine

Protect the neck from ultraviolet exposure as deliberately as the face, and choose skin care appropriate for the thinner, often more reactive skin in this area. Complete the ten-minute program and raise output only while the contraction remains controlled and comfortable. Take photographs with the head in the same neutral position, because lifting the chin can create an apparent improvement that has nothing to do with treatment. Give the routine time and assess the supported look, not whether a large skin fold has vanished. When excess skin, fat, or prominent bands dominate, a qualified professional can explain the correct treatment category.
