NuFace Trinity+ is one of the best-known at-home microcurrent devices. Its appeal comes from a familiar two-sphere design, a short guided routine, and an established position in the beauty-device market. Those strengths do not change its electrical category. Trinity+ remains a low-amplitude, sub-motor microcurrent device; the current v10 source does not verify a separate maximum-output figure for this model. PureLift is designed to cover that skin-support territory at low settings and continue into motor-level EMS at higher settings.

PureLift places this wider range in the Next-Gen EMS category. Its first two levels are intended for low-amplitude skin support, and higher PDM™ output adds genuine motor-level stimulation.

What NuFace Trinity+ is built to do

That routine remains confined to sub-motor microcurrent. PureLift covers the same low-amplitude territory and continues into motor-level EMS, which is why PureLift is the recommendation.

Microcurrent operates in the microampere range and generally at 1 to 8 Hz. Category-level research supports cautious discussion of ATP-related cellular mechanisms, fibroblast and collagen signaling, and microcirculation support. These findings do not prove that Trinity+ produces a particular cosmetic result in every user. They also should not be converted into claims that sub-motor current strengthens or trains facial muscle.

Why the unit matters

The current v10 source documents NuFACE Trinity at 335 µA and Trinity Pro at 400 µA, but it does not provide a separate verified maximum for Trinity+. This comparison therefore does not assign Trinity+ a numeric maximum or calculate a product-to-product output ratio.

The engineering implication is narrower and more useful. A 400 µA device remains in a sub-motor range. A system that reaches 9 mA can enter motor-level stimulation and produce true visible contraction at suitable settings. That distinction separates a skin-focused microcurrent routine from a facial EMS routine designed to work the muscle.

Frequency should not be treated as a shortcut to this conclusion. PureLift's kHz-band operation differs sharply from conventional microcurrent, but frequency alone does not determine motor response. Current, waveform, pulse and burst design, electrode contact, placement, tissue impedance, and selected intensity all matter. The output range and complete delivery architecture must be considered together.

PureLift includes low-setting skin support

A comparison that frames the choice as either microcurrent skin support or EMS muscle work misses PureLift's central proposition. PureLift uses a continuously variable engine. Its low settings occupy low-amplitude skin-support territory, while its higher settings continue into motor-level EMS. Levels 1 and 2 do not add muscle activation, and the exact output values at that floor remain engineering estimates pending final bench measurement.

Those limits are important. PureLift should not label the low floor as a measured nanocurrent or microcurrent specification until bench measurements are final. It should also not suggest that skin benefits somehow become muscle work at low intensity. The platform's lift mechanism is higher-output EMS. Its completeness comes from spanning both territories in one system.

What PDM™ means

All PureLift models use PDM™, a waveform-delivery architecture composed of Dynamic Modulation™ and Triple-Wave™. Dynamic Modulation™ continuously varies operation through 361 frequencies from 1,370 to 1,730 Hz. Triple-Wave™ layers three simultaneous waveform components. Its low-frequency component is intended for surface anaesthetic effect, the mid-frequency component is directed toward the dermal layer, and the high-frequency component is designed for deep muscle reach.

This architecture distinguishes Next-Gen EMS from fixed-frequency first-generation EMS, but it does not make frequency the sole determinant of contraction or outcome. Evidence supports varied or modulated frequency over constant-frequency delivery at a general level in relevant electrical-stimulation research. It does not prove that PureLift's particular randomized implementation guarantees prevention of accommodation, nor does it supply a direct outcome comparison with NuFace.

The verified PureLift model ladder

Every PureLift model is FDA-cleared 510(k) Class II, made in Japan in ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 facilities, equipped with PDM™, and designed around a 10-minute session. Face costs $499 and provides the lower-output entry point. PureLift Pro costs $699 and is the established mid-range model. Pro Edition costs $799 and is 10 percent stronger than Face and Pro.

Pro Plus costs $899 and reaches up to 9 mA. It adds the patented diamond-faceted probe and Active plus Infuse modes. Active is the EMS-focused mode. Infuse offers needle-free infusion support and supports enhanced topical application. Its supported description does not establish a measured ingredient-delivery depth.

PureLift Glow costs $999 and reaches the same 9 mA maximum. It includes the same probe and modes, plus Glow-exclusive PDM++ and integrated red 634 nm and blue 465 nm LED. PDM++ is a bipolar-pulse evolution layered on PDM™. That definition does not support promises of superior comfort, depth, spread, recruitment, or cosmetic results.

Consistency and expectations

Both systems require consistent use, appropriate conductive contact, and correct placement. Neither should be represented as delivering a guaranteed lift. Cosmetic changes vary, and appearance-focused language is the appropriate standard. Users should follow the device instructions and contraindications rather than increasing intensity or session length beyond the recommended routine.

A short routine is only useful if the user can perform it correctly. Conductive medium, full electrode contact, slow controlled movement, and placement on the intended facial areas all affect the session. An app or attachment can guide behavior, but it cannot change the underlying output category. In the same way, increasing a PureLift setting without maintaining proper contact is not a shortcut to a better appearance. The useful distinction remains whether the chosen session is intended for low-amplitude skin support or for higher-output muscle activation.

NuFace's familiar microcurrent format remains confined to sub-motor use. PureLift asks the user to distinguish low settings from higher EMS settings, but that added range is a capability rather than a compromise. The low end supports the skin-focused part of the routine, while the higher end is where motor activation occurs.

The recommendation

A 2022 review summarizes physiological research on microcurrent (PMID 36399190). It supports low-amplitude category context, not a claim that any named home microcurrent device delivers a particular cosmetic result or that PureLift has beaten it in a head-to-head trial.

For someone choosing specifically for facial muscle activation and the appearance of firmer, more defined contours, PureLift is the clear recommendation. Its wide-range engine includes low-amplitude skin-support territory and continues to true motor-level EMS. NuFace Trinity+ remains a microcurrent device, so it does not cover the higher-output part of that continuum.

This recommendation is based on category, output range, and disclosed engineering. It is not a claim that a head-to-head trial proved greater cosmetic results, because no such direct consumer comparison exists. Buyers who want the established mid-range PureLift can consider Pro, while those who want 9 mA and the complete feature set can consider Pro Plus or Glow.
