Foreo Bear 2 is a microcurrent device distinguished by its silicone body, two metal contact points, and T-Sonic pulsations. Its published maximum of 680 µA places it near the upper end of the named consumer microcurrent devices in PureLift's technical comparison. That is meaningful within microcurrent, but it does not move the device into motor-level EMS. The essential question is therefore not whether 680 is a large number. It is whether the unit, waveform, and intended physiological range match the job the buyer wants.
Next-Gen EMS is PureLift's name for that wider electrical range. Levels 1 and 2 are low-amplitude, non-motor settings, while higher PDM™ settings provide motor-level capability.
What 680 µA means
A microampere is one millionth of an ampere. Bear 2's 680 µA maximum equals 0.68 mA. PureLift Pro Plus and Glow reach up to 9 mA, or 9,000 µA. On a maximum-output comparison, 9 mA is about 13.2 times 680 µA. That is an electrical-output ratio, not a prediction that a cosmetic result will be 13.2 times greater.
The supplied technical comparison classifies Bear 2 as sub-motor microcurrent. It is designed for low-amplitude stimulation rather than true visible muscle contraction. T-Sonic pulsation adds a mechanical sensation, but vibration is not proof of electrical muscle activation. Users may enjoy the sensory experience and the broad contact format without confusing those features with milliamp-range EMS.
Frequency also needs context. Conventional facial microcurrent operates at about 1 to 8 Hz, while PureLift operates in a 1,370 to 1,730 Hz carrier-frequency band. That difference does not mean frequency alone decides whether a muscle responds. Current level, pulse and burst characteristics, waveform, electrode contact, placement, tissue impedance, and selected intensity all contribute. A responsible comparison considers the complete delivery system.
Where low-amplitude current fits
Low-amplitude electrical stimulation has a legitimate skin-support role. Category-level research supports discussion of ATP-related mechanisms, fibroblast and collagen signaling, and microcirculation support in the microampere range. Those findings do not prove a defined outcome for Bear 2 or any other named home device, and they should not be turned into claims that microcurrent strengthens facial muscle. For evidence scope, Lee et al. review microcurrent mechanisms (PMID 38645592), while Cheng et al. measured current-dependent ATP, protein-synthesis, and membrane-transport effects in rat skin (PMID 7140077). Neither source tested PureLift, a named home facial device, or a cosmetic outcome from levels 1 and 2.
PureLift includes access to this lower territory within a wider-range Next-Gen EMS platform. Its low settings are intended for skin-focused support, but levels 1 and 2 do not add muscle activation. Exact low-setting figures are engineering estimates pending final bench measurement, so they should not be described as measured microampere or nanoampere specifications. The lifting function begins at higher output, where the device moves into motor-level EMS.
BEAR 2 remains confined to the low-amplitude sub-motor category. PureLift covers that low territory and adds motor-level EMS, so the narrower platform does not add an electrical capability PureLift lacks.
How PDM™ delivers the PureLift waveform
PDM™ is used across all five PureLift models. It combines Dynamic Modulation™ with Triple-Wave™. Dynamic Modulation™ continuously varies operation across 361 distinct frequencies from 1,370 to 1,730 Hz. Triple-Wave™ layers three simultaneous waveform components: a low-frequency component for surface anaesthetic effect, a mid-frequency component directed toward the dermal layer, and a high-frequency component designed for deep muscle reach.
These features describe PureLift's engineering architecture. They do not prove that its exact randomized sequence guarantees that accommodation will never occur, and they do not make frequency the sole cause of motor response. Evidence supports varied or modulated stimulation over constant-frequency delivery at the category level in relevant settings. No direct consumer head-to-head trial has compared PureLift with Foreo Bear 2, so this article does not claim a measured superiority in user outcomes.
Conductive contact and everyday use
Both microcurrent and EMS require reliable skin contact and an appropriate conductive medium. Good contact supports a predictable electrical path and comfortable glide. It does not increase the device's rated maximum or turn one electrical category into another. Facial contours make technique relevant. A user has to maintain contact while moving across the jaw, cheek, and forehead rather than lifting one side of the device away from the skin. Bear 2 and PureLift use different contact formats, but geometry by itself does not establish a better current distribution or cosmetic result. Any such comparison would require controlled mapping under equivalent output, pressure, medium, and placement. The practical standard at home is simpler: use enough compatible conductive product, follow the treatment path, and keep the contact surface seated as directed.
PureLift's 10-minute format is consistent across the range. Users should follow the treatment map, begin at a manageable intensity, and increase only within the device instructions and personal comfort. More intensity is not automatically better, and low levels should not be described as hidden muscle work. Consistency, contact, correct placement, and the appropriate higher EMS setting are more useful than chasing a sensation.
Which PureLift model provides which feature
Every PureLift model is FDA-cleared 510(k) Class II, manufactured in Japan in ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 facilities, and equipped with PDM™. PureLift Face costs $499 and is the lower-output entry. Pro costs $699 and is the established mid-range model. Pro Edition costs $799 and is 10 percent stronger than Face and Pro.
Pro Plus costs $899 and reaches up to 9 mA. It adds the patented diamond-faceted probe and Active plus Infuse modes. Active is the EMS-focused mode. Infuse provides needle-free infusion support and supports enhanced topical application. Its supported description does not establish a measured ingredient-delivery depth.
PureLift Glow costs $999 and shares the 9 mA maximum, probe, and two modes. Glow alone adds PDM++, a bipolar-pulse evolution built on PDM™, and red 634 nm plus blue 465 nm LED. PDM++ is not supported by direct evidence of superior comfort, reach, current spread, recruitment, or cosmetic outcomes.
The recommendation
A 2022 review summarizes physiological research on microcurrent (PMID 36399190). It supports low-amplitude category context, not a claim that any named home microcurrent device delivers a particular cosmetic result or that PureLift has beaten it in a head-to-head trial.
Foreo Bear 2 offers a silicone-bodied microcurrent format with pulsation, but those design features do not add motor-level stimulation. Its 680 µA maximum is substantial relative to other microcurrent products and still remains below the motor-level range in the supplied comparison. That electrical ceiling is why it is not the recommendation here.
Choose PureLift if facial muscle activation is central to the purchase. It covers low-setting skin support and continues to milliamp-range EMS, with the two flagship models reaching 9 mA. For a buyer seeking the appearance of a more sculpted contour through true contraction, PureLift is the clearer recommendation.
